Anton Fedorov’s new play, “Duck Hunt,” is set to premiere at the Bolshoi Drama Theatre (BDT) with pre-premiere screenings on June 7th and 8th. The premiere performances will follow on June 27th and 28th, and July 8th.
This production marks Fedorov’s St. Petersburg directorial debut, showcasing one of Russia’s most prominent contemporary directors. He interprets Alexander Vampilov’s play through the lens of memory, situating the protagonist, Viktor Zilov, within a dreamlike space.
The play delves into the complexities of memory as a means of confronting and potentially revising the past. The protagonist grapples with distinguishing between authentic experiences and fragments of collective memory.
Grigory Chaban embodies Zilov as a composite character, reflecting the accumulation of past experiences. The rehearsal process involved actors drawing upon their personal memories, including their childhoods and past productions of the play, contributing to the performance’s depth.
Fedorov describes the play as an exploration of humanity’s inherent drive to find meaning in memories. Zilov is portrayed as a character actively engaged in reconstructing his past in an attempt to understand where his life took a wrong turn.
