A new procedure for changing passwords on the Russian government services portal, “Gosuslugi,” is now in effect, requiring users to not be engaged in an active phone call to receive the necessary verification code. This change aims to enhance security and combat internet fraud, aligning with a recently implemented federal law.
The updated system mandates that the platform will only transmit the confirmation code needed for password modification if the user is not currently on a call from their device. If a call is in progress, the code will not be delivered.
This measure is designed to safeguard individuals from fraudsters who often use persuasive phone tactics to manipulate users into divulging sensitive information or performing unwanted actions. By requiring users to terminate any ongoing calls before proceeding with the password change, the system aims to allow them to calmly and objectively evaluate the situation.
Furthermore, “Gosuslugi” is considering the introduction of a feature that allows users to designate a trusted individual to approve password changes. The prospective trusted person must also possess an account on the platform.
Participation in this function would be voluntary and is envisioned as an additional layer of protection against unauthorized access and fraudulent activities.
