A new Engels coffee shop has opened in Yekaterinburg, marking the sixth location for the popular chain. The establishment is located on Kuibyshev Street, in the space formerly occupied by the Sphere bistro.
The interior of the new Engels aims to preserve much of the original Sphere bistro’s design, with the Ashburo studio handling the redesign. A key feature of the space is the glass dome, which provides ample natural light.
The idea to open the coffee shop near the circus came about quickly. According to restaurateur Valentin Kuzyakin, the owners of Sphere offered to sell the project, and the deal was completed in just two and a half months.
Inside the coffee shop, artist Sasha Lu created an 18-meter ring-shaped painting under the dome. The design is consistent with her work in other Engels branches.
The coffee shop has 47 seats, fewer than the branch on Malysheva Street. However, the kitchen’s larger size allows for a more comprehensive menu, although it currently excludes pasta and alcohol, as the license is still pending. An additional 50 seats are available on the summer terrace, which will soon be decorated with flowers.
Engels plans its official opening on the morning of June 12. The area has competition, with Cafe 36, Brodsky Coffee, and Gavi Caffeteria nearby. Nevertheless, the owners are confident in attracting their customer base.
Kuzyakin also shared plans to open two more establishments, with the first scheduled to open in the fall. They are considering opening a seventh Engels location but have yet to find a suitable space.
