A new connecting route to Tolmachevo Airport in Novosibirsk, combining electric trains and bus No. 4, has been introduced to offer a more predictable and cheaper alternative to existing transport options. This route aims to bypass traffic congestion on Dimitrovsky Bridge and Truda Square.

The new bus route No. 4, which started service on June 9, 2025, runs between the Ob railway station and the airport terminal. The combined cost of the electric train (50 rubles) and bus No. 4 (42 rubles) is 92 rubles for adults, making it a more affordable option than the 111e express bus, which costs 130 rubles without luggage and 180 rubles with luggage.

However, the new route has received mixed reactions. While some appreciate the bypass of traffic jams, others point out potential inconveniences, especially for passengers with luggage or children. The coordination between bus and train schedules has also been questioned, with the first bus departure not aligning with the earliest morning electric train.

Passengers boarding suburban trains must use a pedestrian bridge, which can be challenging with luggage. The bus stop at Ob station is a small, exposed pavilion. The buses used on route No. 4 are “Vector Next” models, which have limited space for luggage if the bus is crowded.

Despite these drawbacks, the new route offers a potentially faster and more predictable journey, avoiding traffic jams. One passenger noted that transport accessibility to the airport has worsened over the years and considers the new bus route a good backup option. The bus trip itself is pleasant on empty roads with open windows. The route also includes a crossing over railway tracks that can sometimes experience delays due to ice.

The journey from Novosibirsk-Glavny station to the airport took 59 minutes, including transfer time, while the return trip took 1 hour and 16 minutes.

This route might not be suitable for those with early morning flights, passengers with children, or those with mobility issues. It may take time for Novosibirsk residents to become accustomed to using this new route.
