New A-289 Highway to Crimea: Tolls, Speed Limits, and Navigation

The new A-289 highway to Crimea, opened in December in the Krasnodar Territory, now operates as a toll road under the Avtodor Group of Companies. Motorists can expect a smooth drive, but should be aware of certain conditions.

The highway features a speed limit of 90 kilometers per hour, despite its high quality and suitability for higher speeds. This limitation has frustrated many drivers who feel the road is designed for faster travel. Cameras are installed throughout the highway to enforce the speed limit, and traffic police conduct raids to catch violators, who face fines of 5,000 rubles or license suspension.

Navigation can be tricky, as the navigator does not function correctly on the highway. Drivers are advised to download maps in advance and rely on the road signs, which have been improved since the highway’s initial opening.

The toll for the A-289 highway from Krasnodar to Anapa costs 600 rubles one way, with an additional 20 rubles for commission. Payment can be made on the Gosuslugi website, the Pay.avtodor-tr.ru website, or through banking applications. Failure to pay within five days results in a 1,500 ruble fine for cars and 5,000 rubles for trucks, although the fine is waived if the travel debt is paid within 20 days.

While the highway boasts improvements like gas stations and electronic displays with real-time information, some drawbacks remain. Rest areas are basic, offering limited amenities like benches and gazebos without shops. The cost of the toll is a concern for local residents who frequently use the road.
