Moscow Serial Maniac Vladimir Mirgorod Receives New Life Sentence

Vladimir Mirgorod, a serial killer from Moscow, has been sentenced to a new life term after being found guilty of an additional 16 murders. The Golovinsky Court of Moscow delivered the verdict on June 18.

Mirgorod, who operated in the early 2000s, was already serving a life sentence since 2012, but further investigation revealed his involvement in more deaths. Investigators were able to prove his connection to a total of 32 murders committed between 2000 and 2004.

The investigation into Mirgorod was reignited after 2020 when new leads emerged. Despite his initial conviction, authorities uncovered evidence linking him to 16 more victims.

Mirgorod’s initial arrest came in 2005 for rape, resulting in a six-year prison sentence. Upon his release, his fingerprints, taken during a routine police check-in, were instrumental in connecting him to 16 murder cases in 2012. His victims included women and one teenager.

Mirgorod would lure women by offering rides or drinks before attacking, raping, and strangling them. He used various methods, including bathrobe belts, scarves, and handbag straps. The crimes primarily occurred in the northern part of Moscow, where he left the bodies of his victims. In an attempt to conceal evidence of rape, he burned the bodies of two victims and disposed of another in a reservoir.

Mirgorod was initially incarcerated in the Black Berkut special regime colony before being transferred to the Snowflake colony in the Khabarovsk Territory.

During the investigation, Mirgorod reportedly admitted to having “hundreds of women” but could not specify who he killed.

A psychological evaluation determined that Mirgorod was partially sane, acknowledging that he wasn’t fully aware of his actions during the crimes.

The new sentence reinforces the original verdict, ensuring that Vladimir Mirgorod will remain in a special regime colony for the remainder of his life.
