A moose that wandered into St. Petersburg, causing a stir near the “Bukharestskaya” metro station and SPbGUP (St. Petersburg University of Trade Unions), has been successfully returned to the forest. The St. Petersburg Committee for Nature Use reported the incident on May 31, praising the swift and coordinated response of authorities.
The committee stated that specialists, in collaboration with the Ministry of Emergency Situations, acted quickly after receiving reports from residents of the Frunzensky district about the wild animal. Their professionalism ensured the safe capture and return of the moose to its natural habitat.
The moose was initially spotted by residents in the morning on Prazhskaya Street and Bela Kuna Street. It then made its way onto the grounds of the St. Petersburg University of Trade Unions. Eyewitnesses reported that access to the university was temporarily restricted for safety precautions.
Around noon, the moose jumped over the university fence and was last seen heading towards the “Mezhdunarodnaya” metro station.
The public is reminded to report any sightings of wild animals in distress or posing a threat to people by contacting the mobile environmental service at 417-59-36. Biologist Pavel Glazkov explained that moose are coming into the city because of the time of the year.
