A moose and her calf have been spotted in the Priozersky district of the Leningrad region, captured on a wildlife camera on the morning of June 4th. Biologist Pavel Glazkov, who recorded the footage, believes it to be the same moose he observed pregnant just two weeks prior.

The moose, estimated to be around two years old, likely gave birth to a single calf. Twin births are more typical for older female moose. The calf, displaying a steady gait, is believed to be over a week old.

To ensure the calf’s safety, the mother reportedly ventured out with it during the night. During the day, she spent several hours grazing in a nearby clearing, leaving the calf concealed in a safe location.

Pavel Glazkov advises that if a lone moose calf is encountered in the forest, it should not be approached or “rescued,” as the mother is likely nearby. Approaching the calf could be dangerous due to the mother’s protective instincts.
