“Metroproekt” Orders Surveys for New Krasnoselsko-Kalininskaya Metro Line Section

“Metroproekt” is commissioning surveys for the design of a new section of St. Petersburg’s Krasnoselsko-Kalininskaya metro line (brown line), prioritizing access to the future high-speed railway (HSR) terminal at Moskovsky railway station through the “Ligovsky Prospekt-2” station. The tender was announced on June 5th with a starting price of 42 million rubles, with all work expected to be completed by next summer. This infrastructure aims to connect the existing orange “Ligovsky Prospekt” station and the HSR for passengers, even if the brown line doesn’t immediately reach “Ligovsky Prospekt-2”.

The focus is on constructing one of the two single-track tunnels from shaft No. 852 on Tambovskaya Street to the deep “Ligovsky Prospekt-2” station (approximately 55 meters deep). A connecting corridor will link the current “Ligovsky Prospekt” station with “Ligovsky Prospekt-2”, and a reception chamber will be built for a tunnel boring machine that will construct an inclined escalator tunnel to the underground lobby of “Ligovsky Prospekt-2”. From the lobby, passengers will have access to the HSR terminal and the city through the first phase of an administrative building on Ligovsky Prospekt.

The contract title indicates a large section of the brown line: from “Karetnaya” to “Suvorovskaya-1”. Currently, the first section from “Yugo-Zapadnaya” to “Putilovskaya” is being prepared for commissioning on this line, and construction permits are being obtained for the next section, from “Putilovskaya” to “Karetnaya” (“Obvodny Kanal-2”), where tunnel boring machines are already operating in test mode. Accordingly, “Karetnaya” – “Suvorovskaya-1” is the third phase. The section for which “Metroproekt” has ordered surveys is called: “Infrastructure facilities of the ‘Ligovsky Prospekt-1’ station (including the administrative building) and inter-station tunnels”.

The newly established “Metroproekt,” a subsidiary of “Metro Construction of the Northern Capital,” is responsible for the design beyond “Karetnaya” station. The contract for work on three stations (“Ligovsky Prospekt-2” – “Znamenskaya” – “Suvorovskaya-1”) is estimated at approximately 4 billion rubles. While “Metroproekt” is focused on establishing itself, design work is underway, and the company is subcontracting some tasks, including calculating passenger traffic to “Suvorovskaya-1”.

The current plan prioritizes reaching “Ligovsky Prospekt-2” with one tunnel and building infrastructure connecting it to “Ligovsky Prospekt-1” and the surface, aiming for completion by April 2028, when the HSR is expected to be operational. This will allow passengers to transfer between the orange metro line and the HSR.

The exact completion date for the brown line’s full arrival at “Ligovsky Prospekt-2” or “Suvorovskaya” remains uncertain, with estimates ranging from 2030 to 2032. An updated metro development scheme shows the entire section of the brown line to “Suvorovskaya-1” potentially completed by 2030.
