Students at two Moscow universities, the All-Russian Academy of Foreign Trade (VAFT) and Moscow Pedagogical State University (MPGU), have been quarantined following a measles outbreak. The measures include transitioning students to distance learning and implementing vaccination requirements.
The outbreak began at VAFT, where three students contracted measles, prompting the university to switch to remote learning. Rospotrebnadzor, the Russian Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing, issued an order mandating anti-epidemic measures. These measures include restricting in-person attendance for those without proof of measles vaccination or prior infection. The order also calls for immunization against measles for specific epidemic indications.
Following the VAFT outbreak, measles cases were identified in the humanities building of MPGU. Initially, students were moved to distance learning until June 9th, but the restrictions have since been extended to June 17th. University representatives have stated that students are required to be vaccinated because of the outbreak. To mitigate the spread, MPGU is conducting training sessions and interim certifications using e-learning and distance learning technologies for both full-time and part-time students.
