Mariinsky Theatre Soloist Ordered to Compulsory Psychiatric Treatment

Grigory Werner, a soloist with the Mariinsky Theatre, has been ordered to undergo compulsory inpatient psychiatric treatment following a court ruling in St. Petersburg. The decision, granted by the Smolninsky District Court, comes after Werner’s detention on June 14 in connection with a series of incidents.

The incidents leading to Werner’s detention included reports of him brandishing weapons and displaying what appeared to be FSB identification cards. He also allegedly attacked a film crew from a local television channel, causing damage estimated at 100,000 rubles to their vehicle.

Prior to these events, Werner was reportedly seen at a car wash in Olgino with a firearm and knife, interfering with employees. He is also accused of forcing a boat captain at gunpoint to transport him to the Mariinsky Theater and assaulting a theater employee at the “Na Liteynom” theater, where he sought out a former partner.

The court’s decision for compulsory treatment is subject to immediate execution. Werner was transferred to psychiatric hospital No. 6 after being detained by police.
