A man drowned in the Neva River in St. Petersburg on Friday afternoon after jumping in to swim while intoxicated. Investigators are currently establishing the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to the Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the city of St. Petersburg, the man was in a state of alcohol intoxication when he entered the river. He was unable to swim back to shore and subsequently died.
An investigator has already inspected the scene of the drowning. Authorities are actively working with eyewitnesses to gather more information about what occurred.
A procedural check is being organized in connection with the incident to determine the full scope of events leading to the man’s death.
