A 44-year-old man was detained in St. Petersburg’s Krasnogvardeisky district on June 2nd for allegedly launching a homemade drone. The incident occurred in a park near Revolyutsii Highway in the Polyustrovo municipal district at approximately 4:00 PM.

The man, who had a prior conviction, was found in possession of a quadcopter he admitted to assembling himself, along with special goggles and a remote control. He was taken into police custody.

Eyewitnesses alerted law enforcement to the suspicious activity, leading to the Russian Guard’s swift response and apprehension of the individual.

The use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) is currently prohibited in St. Petersburg, with the ban extended until December 31, 2025. However, exceptions are made for government entities, state defense contractors, media outlets, and the film industry.

This incident follows a previous report of another individual being detained for launching a drone near a school in St. Petersburg.
