The Leningrad Oblast is set to revive the Governor’s Cup in ski sports, beginning with a biathlon competition, with plans to reinstate the Kavgolovo Games in the future. This initiative aims to promote skiing and create accessible ski facilities for residents throughout the region.

As part of the plan, the ski base in Svetogorsk will be restored starting in 2026, with support from the Svetogorsk Pulp and Paper Mill and the forestry industry. The restoration will include the creation of a ski track for winter use and an eco-trail for walking and tourism during the summer months.

The regional administration has emphasized the importance of establishing similar ski bases in every city to ensure year-round operation. This effort is geared toward providing opportunities for residents to engage in skiing near their homes, fostering a foundation for the revival of major ski competitions.
