Extensive legal battles have erupted surrounding the “B. Yu. Alexandrov” cheese curds brand and the business empire of its founder, Boris Alexandrov. The disputes involve inheritance, trademark rights, and corporate control, leading to the cessation of production under the famous name.
The conflict began after Alexandrov’s death in 2020, triggering a series of lawsuits among his heirs and business partners. His partner, Yuri Izachik, challenged the transfer of 85% of Rostagrokompleks shares to top managers, alleging mental distress and deception. This dispute has led to criminal charges and ongoing legal proceedings.
Alexandrov’s daughter, Ekaterina, has also filed lawsuits seeking billions in damages for the unauthorized use of the “B. Yu. Alexandrov” brand, claiming unpaid royalties and illegal brand usage after terminating licensing agreements with Rostagrokompleks.
Adding to the complexity, Natalia Kokota, another of Alexandrov’s daughters, contested the validity of the trademark transfer agreement to Ekaterina, alleging that Alexandrov was incapacitated at the time of signing. This challenge further complicates the legal landscape and the rights to the brand.
Amidst these legal battles, production of the premium cheese curds under the “B. Yu. Alexandrov” brand has ceased. The company has shifted to using the “Rostagroexport” and “Rostagrokompleks” names, a move that experts predict could lead to a decline in sales and require significant investment in new branding.
Despite the brand name’s disappearance, Rostagrokompleks has demonstrated financial growth since 2020. While Rostagroexport faced liquidation, Rostagrokompleks and other associated companies have increased their revenues and profits. This indicates that while the brand is gone, the underlying business remains viable.
