Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State Mark Rubio discussed upcoming negotiations with Ukraine and the sabotage on the railways in Russia during a telephone conversation.
Rubio conveyed his condolences regarding the civilian casualties resulting from the sabotage of railway infrastructure in the Bryansk and Kursk regions on June 1. The Russian Foreign Ministry press service reported this detail.
Lavrov emphasized that competent authorities will conduct a thorough investigation into the sabotage incidents and release the findings soon.
The two officials also exchanged views on initiatives for a political settlement of the Ukrainian crisis, including plans to resume direct Russian-Ukrainian negotiations in Istanbul.
A meeting between Russian and Ukrainian delegations is scheduled for June 2. The Ukrainian delegation has confirmed its participation, and Russian representatives have already traveled to Istanbul. The Russian delegation will be headed by Vladimir Medinsky, Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation, and will include Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Mikhail Glyzin and Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Fomin.
