Authorities in the Krasnodar Krai region have announced a temporary ban on visiting 150 beaches in Anapa and the Temryuk district due to an emergency situation caused by an oil spill in the Black Sea. This decision comes as a result of oil product content exceeding acceptable standards on 141 beaches in Anapa and 9 in the Temryuk district.
The public is being informed of the beach closures through various channels, including banners on roads leading to the sea, street media screens, television broadcasts, and social media platforms. Efforts are also underway to restrict vehicle access to the “Anapskaya peresyp” natural area using sand barriers and ditches.
To further ensure compliance, mobile teams consisting of city employees, enterprise staff, and Cossacks are actively informing people about the swimming prohibition. Volunteer medics are also present on the beaches during weekends.
The ongoing situation has impacted tourism in the area. Anapa has seen approximately 390,000 visitors since the start of the year, a 10% decrease compared to the same period last year. The region has prepared 1,600 accommodation facilities for tourists, with 1,300 currently operational and at 42% occupancy. These are primarily hotels and guesthouses with swimming pools.
Meanwhile, in the Temryuk district, plans are in place to open 32 beaches following thorough quality checks of the sand and water. So far, 12 beaches have successfully passed inspection.
