Katernikov Square in Kronshtadt, St. Petersburg, has been recognized as the best improvement project of 2024 in a recent competition. The announcement was made on June 5 by Andrei Kononov, the head of the Kronshtadt district.

The square, located on Gidrostroiteley Street, features the Komsolets combat torpedo boat as its centerpiece, serving as a memorial to Baltic torpedo boat sailors.

A reconstruction project was completed last year, which included repairing pathways, installing new lighting, laying a new lawn, and planting shrubs and flowers.

The square’s design incorporates a marine theme, with tile patterns and bench shapes that mimic waves and sails.

Katernikov Square originally opened in 2009. The area is an actively developing part of the city’s island area that is becoming a new cultural and public hub.
