Jungle Sounds Annoy Novosibirsk Residents

Residents of Novosibirsk’s Oktyabrsky district experienced sleepless nights due to jungle sounds emanating from a local shopping center. The sounds were traced to a bird repeller installed on the roof of the Lastochka shopping center.

The device, intended to scare away pigeons, was mistakenly left running overnight. The director of Lastochka LLC, Maxim Tsarapkin, confirmed that the repeller was operating in test mode over the weekend and was not turned off by a tenant.

The unusual noises sparked discussion among residents on social media, who quickly identified the source as the Lastochka shopping center. While some residents were bothered by the sounds, others found them beneficial in reducing the pigeon population. One resident, Vitaly Glushkov, stated that the repeller did not bother him and that passing cars made more noise.

The director explained that pigeon droppings were causing issues with the building’s panoramic windows and surrounding area. He attributed the pigeon infestation to residents feeding the birds near the shopping center.

Biologist Alexey Yanovsky suggested that the increase in pigeons was due to a mild winter and warm spring, which allowed them to overwinter successfully and begin breeding earlier. He added that these methods are typically used during daylight hours and for short periods of time.

Authorities have advised residents to contact the Ministry of Internal Affairs for a legal assessment of the situation.
