June Holidays and Days Off in Russia

Russians can anticipate an extended weekend in June due to Russia Day, alongside the widely observed International Children’s Day. The month features 19 working days and 11 days off, influencing the cost of a working day and vacation pay calculations.

Russia Day, celebrated on June 12th, is a legally established public holiday, resulting in a four-day weekend from June 12th to June 15th. This extended break includes the addition of the regular Saturday and Sunday weekends. The working day preceding Russia Day, June 11th, will be shortened by one hour.

In addition to Russia Day, Russians will also observe a make-up holiday for International Women’s Day, March 8th, on Friday, June 13th. This is because the original holiday fell on a Saturday, leading to its postponement.

International Children’s Day on June 1st, while widely celebrated, is not an official day off according to the labor calendar.

The number of working days in June impacts financial calculations. With fewer working days compared to months like July and October (which have 23 working days each), the cost of each working day is higher in June. Consequently, vacation pay, which is calculated based on calendar days, will be lower in June compared to months with more working days.

Russia Day commemorates the adoption of the Declaration on State Sovereignty of the RSFSR on June 12, 1990. This declaration established the priority of the Russian Constitution over the laws of the Union and laid the foundation for subsequent reforms and the Constitution of the Russian Federation. The holiday was initially known as Independence Day before being renamed Russia Day in June 1998.
