ITMO University and Gazprom Neft will launch a joint master’s program called “Artificial Intelligence in Industry” starting September 1, 2025, aiming to train the next generation of AI developers for the Russian industry. The program will focus on integrating AI technologies into all stages of production within the oil and gas sector.

The program intends to equip students with the skills to create intelligent systems for process optimization, digital diagnostics of equipment, and the application of machine learning and generative technologies to solve engineering challenges. The curriculum is designed to bridge the gap between advanced AI technologies and the practical needs of industrial production.

Gazprom Neft will offer corporate scholarships to high-achieving students, providing them with opportunities to work on real-world IT projects within the company. Successful graduates will be considered for employment at Gazprom Neft.

The initial intake will consist of 40 students, with plans to expand the program to train hundreds of specialists by 2030. These specialists will be equipped to implement AI across various production stages, from geological exploration to finished product output.

According to Ilya Dementyev, Rector of the Gazprom Neft Corporate Institute, this program is a significant step in training engineers who will drive the digital transformation of Russian industry. Oleg Tretyak, Director of Digital Transformation at Gazprom Neft, emphasized the growing demand for specialists capable of developing digital systems to optimize production. Anton Dumin, IT Director of Gazprom Neft, highlighted that the focus is on training people who can effectively collaborate with AI, rather than AI replacing human roles. Anna Kalyuzhnaya, Head of the Master’s Program, stated that the program is designed to produce experts who deeply understand the industry and can create practical solutions for production.
