The Governor of the Irkutsk region, Igor Kobzev, awarded police officers and a serviceman for their bravery in attempting to stop Ukrainian drones launched from a truck. The incident occurred on June 1 when a military airfield in the Usolsky district of the Irkutsk region was targeted in the first UAV attack in the area.
Four individuals, including district police officer Evgeny Adorchenko, criminal investigation detective Viktor Vasiliev, police department driver-mechanic Valery Shishkin, and serviceman Alexey, were honored during a meeting with the governor. Kobzev presented each of them with personalized watches and letters of gratitude.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs officers were on duty when they received a message about the attack and saw black smoke. They immediately went to the scene near the Terem cafe where the drones were being launched from a truck.
According to district police officer Evgeny Adorchenko, Lieutenant Colonel Alexey Ilyich Stolyarov was the first to act. The officers threw stones and other objects at the truck to prevent the drones from continuing to take off.
Serviceman Alexey, who was not on duty, was passing by with his wife and decided to help. He stated that his primary concern was for his family and colleagues at the airfield.
Kobzev mentioned that he is also aware of the truck drivers who assisted in stopping the drones, but as they reside outside the Irkutsk region, he was unable to invite them to the meeting. He assured that he would contact them to express his gratitude.
