Irkutsk Police Pursue and Detain Drunk Driver on Foot

Traffic police officers in the Irkutsk region successfully apprehended a drunk driver after a foot chase. The incident occurred after officers noticed a Toyota Belta whose driver ignored their signals to stop.

While patrolling a village, officers spotted the vehicle and signaled for the driver to pull over. The driver refused to comply and attempted to flee, prompting an inspector to approach the car. The driver then abandoned the vehicle and tried to escape on foot.

The traffic police inspector pursued the driver and managed to catch up with him. The driver subsequently refused to undergo a medical examination. Authorities discovered that the individual had been deprived of their driver’s license in 2023.

Traffic police are now investigating the incident for signs of a criminal act. The detained individual faces legal consequences for driving under the influence and other related offenses.

Investment Accounts for Children Coming to Russia

Russians will soon be able to open investment accounts for children and receive a tax deduction. The new initiative aims to provide families with long-term savings opportunities for their children.

Currently, investment accounts can only be opened for children aged 14 and older through some brokers. The new proposal will allow parents to open these accounts immediately after a child’s birth.

The Deputy Minister of Finance, Ivan Chebeskov, shared the details of the plan. The idea is currently under discussion with the Central Bank.

If approved, these investment accounts will become available to all families in Russia, providing a new avenue for financial planning and wealth accumulation for future generations.

Hundreds of Students Expelled from Unified State Exam

Over 600 students have been removed from the Unified State Exam (EGE) for violating exam rules, primarily for using cell phones. The head of Rosobrnadzor, Anzor Muzaev, made this announcement at the SPIEF.

A significant number of students, 189, were caught using telephones during the exam. Students are also resorting to more sophisticated methods, such as “smart glasses” and headphones, to cheat.

Any student caught using unauthorized devices will have their exam results canceled. Violators will not be allowed to retake the exam until the following year.

Not only students, but also teachers, may face fines for exam violations. The stringent measures aim to maintain the integrity of the Unified State Exam.

Russia Implements New Rules for University Admissions

The Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia has introduced new regulations restricting the number of paid enrollment slots at universities. The changes are set to take effect on September 1, 2026.

According to an order issued by Russian President Vladimir Putin, the government will now determine the number of paid education slots available at both public and private universities. It remains unclear how these slots will be allocated among different institutions.

Universities are prohibited from increasing the number of paid places for the upcoming academic year. These changes are intended to impact the higher education landscape.

The deadline for submitting admission documents has also been altered this year. These new rules are designed to streamline the university admissions process.
