A pre-investigation check has been initiated by the Investigative Department for the Admiralteysky District of the Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia for St. Petersburg following a ceiling collapse in a residential building.

The investigation was triggered by a media report concerning the incident in Narvskaya Zastava. The press service of the department confirmed the launch of the investigation on June 6.

Investigators are on scene to determine the specific circumstances that led to the collapse.

According to the Investigative Committee, the publication regarding the ceiling collapse in an apartment building on Kosinov Street, which occurred after extensive roof repairs, was discovered during social media monitoring.

The incident occurred in house No. 6 on Kosinov Street, where a heavy layer of ceiling plaster fell in one of the apartments.

A resident of the building contacted the Fontanka editorial office to report the incident.

A woman was in the room at the time but was not injured, although pieces of cement fell directly onto the sofa where she was sleeping.

Major repairs to the roof of the building were completed in 2018. Residents report that the ceiling has been settling and cracking in some apartments since the repairs.

The situation is worsened by long-term leaks, which residents claim have been ongoing since the 1990s.

A procedural decision will be made based on the findings of the inspection.
