A 10-year-old boy in Barnaul is in serious condition after an accident at Yubileyny Park while riding a scooter. The Investigative Committee for the Altai Territory has launched a preliminary investigation into the incident, which occurred on May 30th.
The boy sustained blunt abdominal trauma and a ruptured spleen after his scooter got caught in an opening on a skate park, causing him to fall. The incident happened while the boy was under his mother’s supervision.
Investigators are looking into potential violations related to the safety standards of services provided to consumers, specifically under Article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The Prosecutor of the Altai Territory, Anton German, is overseeing the investigation and the subsequent procedural decision-making.
The Barnaul administration stated that the damaged area had been cordoned off with warning tapes and announcements, but visitors continued to use it. The city is considering dismantling the sports equipment if people ignore the warnings.
The Committee for Improvement had previously identified damage to the pump track slope during an inspection. They reminded the public that the use of faulty equipment is dangerous and that protective gear, such as helmets and gloves, is required when using the skate park. They also emphasized the importance of inspecting equipment before use to ensure it is free of damage.
