St. Petersburg is bracing for heavy rainfall as an intensifying cyclone moves northward. The center of the cyclone, which originated in Belarus, has already moved to the south of the Pskov region and is continuing its trajectory northward.
According to Alexander Kolesov, the chief meteorologist of St. Petersburg, the pressure at the cyclone’s center is decreasing rapidly. The heaviest precipitation is anticipated in the eastern part of St. Petersburg.
While some rain began in the morning, the most intense downpours are expected to arrive later in the day and persist until nightfall.
The cyclone’s center is forecasted to pass east of St. Petersburg, leading to varied weather conditions across the Leningrad region. The eastern part of the region is likely to experience showers and thunderstorms, while the western part, including St. Petersburg, is expected to face heavy rains along the atmospheric front.
The city is predicted to receive between 20 and 30 mm of precipitation today. Given that the average rainfall for the entire month of June is 69 mm, some areas of St. Petersburg may experience a significant percentage of the month’s total rainfall in a single day.
