In Kamensk-Uralsky, a man with a knife held his cohabitant hostage

A 31-year-old man, known as Gavrik, has been detained in Kamensk-Uralsky after holding his 29-year-old cohabitant hostage at knifepoint. The incident occurred at an apartment on Kamenskaya Street, prompting concerned neighbors to alert the police.

Gavrik, who has a history of convictions including theft, robbery, and murder, held a kitchen knife to the woman’s throat. He refused to open the door for the police and made several appearances on the balcony, brandishing the knife against his cohabitant. The couple has reportedly lived together for about five years and are raising two minor children.

Police officers initiated negotiations with Gavrik. During a lapse in his attention, the woman managed to escape the apartment.

Gavrik attempted to prevent her escape, but police apprehended him, using special equipment due to his resistance. The moment of the woman’s release and Gavrik’s subsequent arrest was captured on video.

Authorities are investigating the motive behind the crime, with one theory suggesting that Gavrik was jealous and felt his cohabitant was not sufficiently involved in raising their children. He was reportedly intoxicated at the time of the incident.

A criminal case has been opened against Gavrik under Part 2 of Article 127 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which addresses illegal imprisonment with the use of objects used as weapons. Gavrik was previously released from prison in 2020 after serving eight years.
