Ideas proposed for managing drifters and car enthusiasts at Yekaterinburg parking lot

Authorities in Yekaterinburg are considering various proposals to address the issue of drifters and car enthusiasts causing disturbances in a parking lot near Ural Federal University (UPI). The suggestions arose in response to concerns about nighttime noise and potential closure of the parking area.

One prevalent idea involves creating a designated area for racing and drifting. Proponents suggest a paid entry system to fund improvements and encourage more structured and safe activities, potentially attracting racers to a professional setting.

However, there’s disagreement about who should bear the financial responsibility. Some argue that the city should sponsor the construction of such a platform, while others believe the drivers themselves should contribute. A suggestion was made to utilize an area like Karaseozersky, but emphasized the need for specialized and safe locations, advocating for drivers to pool resources for its development.

An alternative to constructing a new site is to deter drifting activities in the existing parking lot. Suggestions include installing speed bumps or parking dividers to make drifting difficult, coupled with the deployment of cameras and hefty fines for violations. This approach aims to replenish the city budget through penalties while discouraging disruptive behavior.

The situation near UPI is not isolated; street racers also cause problems at the parking lot near the Central Stadium. Previously, an incident occurred where self-tapping screws were scattered in the area, potentially damaging the tires of drifters.
