A graduate in the Leningrad Region had their Unified State Exam (EGE) results canceled after using “smart glasses” to film exam questions. The student used the glasses during the social studies and Russian language exams.
The Education Committee of the Leningrad Region confirmed the incident and stated that the student will not be allowed to retake the exam on reserve days.
According to a reader who contacted Fontanka, the student filmed the exam questions using the “smart glasses” and sent the footage to individuals who assisted in solving the problems. These assistants then allegedly dictated the answers through a special earpiece. Videos containing the exam tasks subsequently appeared online.
Prior to the incident, footage of the EGE exam materials had been circulating on social media. Fontanka reported having the footage for several days before verifying and confirming the information with the Education Committee of the Leningrad Region.
In a separate incident in Moscow, an individual attempted to take the biology exam in place of the registered graduate. This person was apprehended and turned over to the police.
Approximately 500 graduates have been expelled from the EGE this year, with half of those expulsions related to the use of cheat sheets. Recently, teachers also identified a flaw in one of the Russian language EGE tasks.
