Girl in St. Petersburg Hospitalized After Scorpion Sting

A 12-year-old girl in St. Petersburg is currently under medical supervision after being stung by a scorpion. The incident occurred in an apartment in the Petrogradsky district, prompting an ambulance to transport the child to the Filatov Children’s Hospital on the evening of June 2nd.

Doctors have assessed the girl’s condition as moderately severe, requiring her to remain hospitalized for observation and treatment of the suspected toxic effects of the scorpion’s venom. The scorpion stung the middle finger of her right hand.

Preliminary information suggests that the scorpion was being kept in the apartment where the incident took place. Keeping scorpions as pets is illegal in Russia. They are included on a government-approved list of prohibited animals.
