Gadzhimurad Sharipov has been sentenced to three years in a general regime penal colony for intentionally causing grievous bodily harm after stabbing a man at the Sennoy Market in St. Petersburg. The Oktyabrsky District Court announced the verdict after Sharipov was found guilty of the crime committed on June 21 of last year.
The incident occurred when Sharipov stabbed the victim in the chest near the entrance to the Sennoy Market on Moskovsky Prospekt and then fled the scene. The victim was hospitalized for four days at the Mariinsky Hospital following the attack.
In court, Sharipov pleaded guilty and expressed remorse, stating that he acted in response to an insult directed at his mother, which he claimed offended his honor. He stated that he immediately regretted his actions, apologized to the victim, contacted emergency services, and turned himself in to the police. Sharipov asked the court for leniency, requesting an opportunity to start anew and raise his son.
According to the victim’s testimony, he intervened when he saw Sharipov harassing a young man and a girl at the market. He led Sharipov away from the couple and asked him to stop bothering people, which led to a conflict. The victim asserted that he did not insult Sharipov and was attacked after telling him to go away. Eyewitnesses separated them initially, but Sharipov broke free and stabbed the victim before fleeing, only to return briefly to apologize.
