A resident of Feodosia has been detained by the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) on suspicion of treason and manufacturing an improvised explosive device (IED) for the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU). The FSB’s Center for Public Relations announced the arrest on June 3, stating that a criminal case has been initiated.
The FSB alleges the man acted as an agent for Ukrainian special services and was involved in a plot to commit acts of sabotage and terrorism in Crimea.
Law enforcement claims the detainee contacted the SBU independently and agreed to cooperate secretly. He allegedly retrieved components for an IED from two caches in Crimea and assembled the device based on instructions received via video link.
Authorities state that more than 1.2 kilograms of explosives were placed in a cache in the Balaklava district of Sevastopol. The suspect is currently in custody.
