Maxim Krasnov, a former deputy head of the Internal Security Department of the Transport Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Siberian Federal District, has been convicted of fraud in Novosibirsk. The Zheleznodorozhny District Court issued the verdict on June 5, finding Krasnov guilty under part 3 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
Krasnov was initially fined 350,000 rubles and barred from holding positions in law enforcement and civil service for two years. However, the fine was later reduced to 250,000 rubles.
The investigation revealed that Krasnov defrauded a former colleague of 50,000 rubles by falsely promising him a high-ranking position within the transport police.
The case gained attention when crime reporter Pavel Tiunov examined it in November 2024. A key witness for the prosecution was Andrei Khomin, the former head of the economic police of Novosibirsk. Reportedly, Khomin testified against several former colleagues in an attempt to lessen his own punishment in a bribery case.
