Forecast for the End of the Powerful Magnetic Storm in Moscow

Moscow experienced a powerful magnetic storm that began on Sunday, June 1st, and is expected to subside by Tuesday, June 3rd. The storm, triggered by a significant plasma ejection from the Sun, reached a G4 level (very strong) almost immediately after it started.

The Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the IKI RAN and ISZF SB RAS reported that this event was likely the largest plasma ejection from the Sun since the beginning of 2025, directed straight towards Earth. There is a possibility that such values have never been recorded in the history of observations, or are close to historical maximums.

Scientists predict that the storm will persist for three days, with levels expected to reach G3 (strong storm) after 6 a.m. on Monday, June 2nd, before gradually declining to G2-G1 (medium and weak storm) levels. The active period is expected to end after 12 noon on Tuesday, June 3rd, although the Earth’s magnetosphere will remain excited for several more days.

Magnetic storms are sudden disturbances in the Earth’s geomagnetic field, often resulting from energy emissions on the Sun and are assessed on a ten-point scale. Disturbances stronger than five points are classified from G1 to G5.

During magnetic storms, weather-sensitive individuals may experience heart disturbances and fluctuations in blood pressure, manifesting as weakness, dizziness, and difficulty breathing. Symptoms can persist even after the geomagnetic disturbances subside. Doctors advise weather-sensitive people to drink more water, limit salty foods, and incorporate more vegetables, fruits, fish, herbs, and nuts into their diet, while avoiding spicy, fried, and fatty foods. Green or herbal tea is recommended as a replacement for black tea, and alcohol, smoking, energy drinks, and coffee should be avoided. Minimizing stress and prioritizing rest are also advised.
