Flooding of Gardens and Territories in St. Petersburg and Leningrad Region Due to Heavy Rains

Heavy rains on June 9th and 10th have caused significant flooding in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region, impacting garden plots and residential areas.

The Mshinskaya gardening area in the Luzhsky district is experiencing considerable issues due to the overflow of the Kamenka River. The river’s channel has shifted as a result of the intense rainfall.

In the Kobrinskoye horticultural association, residents report a potential dam burst. A request for assistance from the Kobrinskoye territorial administration was met with a response emphasizing the horticultural association’s responsibility, specifically the chairman’s role in ensuring safety and addressing emergencies. The administration advised contacting the horticultural association’s government.

The village of Chernoe, near Rerikh’s Izvara in the Volosovsky district, is facing a severe situation where the local river has overflowed, flooding household plots. Residents are using boats to evacuate people from the affected areas, and the Ministry of Emergency Situations has been notified. While the critical water level has not been exceeded, flooding is reported at 20-25 centimeters.

Alarming reports are also emerging from the village of Zhukovo, in the suburbs of Kingisepp, where the Vaguy stream has reportedly overflowed its banks.

The region received 86% of its entire June rainfall on June 9th due to the Veit cyclone. While the cyclone is now subsiding and moving towards the White Sea, precipitation continues in the south and east of the Leningrad region.
