Approximately 60 houses in the “Vсход” Garden Non-Commercial Partnership (SNT) in the Orekhovo-Zuyevo urban district were flooded on July 16th. Residents are experiencing knee-deep water on their properties.

The flooding is suspected to be a result of drainage system alterations caused by the construction of the M-12 “Vostok” highway, diverting water from a nearby forest swamp. Residents are seeking assistance from local authorities.

Local administration employees and workers used an excavator to remove silt and branches from the area. They plan to return with more powerful equipment to further clear the riverbed.

Yuri, a pensioner and long-time resident of the SNT, stated that this is the first instance of such severe summer flooding, as flooding typically occurs in the spring. He believes the winter flooding and current situation are connected to the road construction. He reported water levels of 30 to 40 centimeters on his property.

Water has inundated courtyards, forcing residents to navigate the streets in boots. Water is flowing through fences, impacting neighboring properties and destroying gardens.

In related news, Rublevskoe Highway experienced flooding on July 17th, affecting cars and pedestrians. Heavy rainfall caused cars to float, trees to fall, and roofs to leak. People were rescued from the floodwaters. On July 15th, even the State Duma building experienced leaks, flooding the smoking room and stairs.
