Vnukovo Airport in Moscow experienced flooding in one of its terminals due to severe weather conditions. Heavy rain, hail, and strong winds caused water to pour from the ceiling, as reported by passengers and confirmed by the airport.
The airport’s press service stated that all available resources were being deployed to address the aftermath of the weather event, and all airport services were operating at a heightened state of alert. The roof sustained damage due to the extreme weather.
Several flights destined for Vnukovo were diverted to alternate airfields. Rosaviatsia confirmed that three planes were redirected because of the inclement weather. Reportedly, some flights were sent to Nizhny Novgorod.
The airport resumed normal operations around 7:00 PM, with remaining flights scheduled to depart as planned. Earlier in the day, passengers had shared videos showing the flooded terminal. This weather also caused flooding at the Komsomolskaya metro station.
