Despite the heat and lack of heavy rainfall, Novosibirsk residents are discovering the first slippery jack mushrooms. These early finds are being shared in the “Mushrooms and Mushroom Spots of Novosibirsk and the Novosibirsk Region” group on VKontakte, bringing delight to local mushroom enthusiasts.

Currently, the slippery jacks are appearing as isolated specimens and are still quite small. They are not yet growing in concentrated clusters.

One mushroom picker reported finding slippery jacks in Matveevka, near Berdsk, noting their small size. According to Mycology.su, the slippery jack mushroom season in the Novosibirsk region typically lasts from the end of June through October, offering ample time for foraging.

Recent precipitation in the region raises hopes for a more abundant harvest of slippery jacks in the near future. In addition to slippery jacks, Novosibirsk residents have also started finding the first porcini mushrooms in the forests, despite the ongoing heat.
