First Honey Mushrooms of the Season Appear in St. Petersburg and Leningrad Region

St. Petersburg and the surrounding Leningrad Region are experiencing the first sightings of honey mushrooms this season, prompting excitement among local mushroom enthusiasts. The “Mushrooms and Mushroom Pickers of St. Petersburg” community reports that the popular edible fungi are now being found in forests both within the city’s territory and throughout the region.

These mushrooms often grow in clusters, sometimes forming distinctive “witch’s circles” as the mycelium expands outward. This growth pattern can result in a circular arrangement of mushrooms, making them easier to spot.

Alongside honey mushrooms, other varieties are also emerging in the forests. Mushroom hunters can currently find morels, boletus, brown cap boletus, russula, and occasionally even prized porcini and orange-cap boletus.
