A fire broke out in the Y. Y. Smirnov apartment building on the Obvodny Canal embankment in St. Petersburg on June 3rd, causing significant damage and prompting a response from firefighters. The blaze, which originated on the third floor, quickly spread to the roof of the building, generating thick black smoke that billowed into the sky.

The source of the fire was located on the third floor of the building, with flames primarily concentrated in that area. Photos from the scene showed extensive fire damage and sections of the protective facade covering the building were burned.
