A fire erupted at a Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk gas station on June 17th after a man ignited a fuel tank with a lighter. The incident occurred at the intersection of Lenin and Transitnaya streets, causing the car and hose to catch fire.

The Sakhalin Oblast Prosecutor’s Office has taken control of the procedural check initiated following the event. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fire.

An eyewitness reported that the driver of a Toyota Caldina appeared distracted and was peeling off a sticker on the fuel filler flap before igniting it. The eyewitness suggested the driver did not intend to cause the fire and was surprised by the outcome.

The driver acted quickly, using his jacket to extinguish the flames on the car. His passenger exited the vehicle and alerted the gas station operator, who used a fire extinguisher to further control the situation. The swift actions of those present prevented serious damage or injuries.
