A fire erupted at a warehouse in Novosibirsk’s Akademgorodok on July 1, prompting an investigation by the Ministry of Emergency Situations to determine the cause and the contents of the storage facility. According to Yuri Peryazev, head of the Civil Defense and Emergency Situations Department for the Soviet District, the fire was quickly extinguished and poses no immediate threat to the population.
The fire, which occurred on Arbuzov Street, affected a one-story building. Four people evacuated the premises independently, with two reportedly inhaling smoke but declining hospitalization.
Following the incident, the Novosibirsk mayor’s office issued a warning to residents of the Soviet District, urging them to remain indoors, close windows, and wait for the smoke to dissipate. The mayor’s office later announced that the fire was extinguished and there was no danger to the public.
While rumors circulated on social media suggesting that phosphorus may have been involved in the fire, official sources have not confirmed these reports. The Ministry of Emergency Situations is continuing its investigation into the incident.
