A female black woodpecker was captured on camera in the Vsevolozhsky district attempting to dismantle a camera trap. The incident, which occurred in the forest, was shared by biologist Pavel Glazkov on his Telegram channel “Every Creature a Pair” on Saturday, June 14.

The footage reveals the woodpecker using its beak to strike the camera repeatedly. The bird’s powerful blows targeted the plastic casing of the surveillance equipment.

Despite the woodpecker’s efforts, the camera sustained no damage, and the bird eventually abandoned its attack.

“As soon as the heavy blows stopped, the hero himself appeared in front of the camera, who turned out to be none other than the black woodpecker – also known as the zhelna,” Pavel Glazkov stated.

The biologist identified the bird as a female black woodpecker. Male black woodpeckers have a completely red head, while females only have red on the nape of their necks.
