Federal State of Emergency and Forest Visit Ban Extended in Zabaykalsky Krai

The ban on citizens visiting forests in the Zabaykalsky Krai has been extended for three weeks, now lasting from May 30 to June 19. This decision comes as the region grapples with an expansive fire season.

A decree from the regional government, published on the “Zabaykalsky Rabochy” website, formalizes the extension. The initial ban was set to expire on May 29.

Since the beginning of 2025, fires have ravaged over 2 million hectares of Zabaykalye forests, exceeding the total area affected throughout the entirety of the previous year.

The ban encompasses the entry of vehicles and the performance of specific work types within the boundaries of numerous forestries, including Aginsky, Akshinsky, Alexandrovsko-Zavodsky, Argunsy, Badinsky, Baleisky, Beklemishevsky, Verkhne-Chitinsky, Gazimuro-Zavodsky, Duldurginsky, Ingodinsky, Karymsky, Krasnochikoisky, Kyrinsky, Mogochinsky, Nerchinsky, Olenguysky, Ononsky, Petrovsk-Zabaikalsky, Sretensky, Tungokochensky, Khiloksky, Charsky, Chernyshevsky, Shilkinsky, and Chitinsky.

An exception is made within the Chitinsky forestry: specifically, the area opposite the Severny microdistrict, stretching from the Kashtaksky ring along the bypass road to the intersection with Verkhnlenskaya Street, encompassing the Vysokogorye ski complex and the Sukhotino area, identified by a “Recreation Area” sign.

The fire season in Zabaykalye was declared on March 24, 2025, following the first forest fire, which prompted the declaration of a state of high alert on the same day. A special fire regime was gradually implemented starting March 31, restricting citizen access to forests. A regional emergency regime was introduced across all Zabaykalsky Krai forests on April 7, followed by a special fire regime in Chita on April 9. A federal emergency regime was then implemented on April 23.
