The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) has created a mechanism to control hotel prices during major international forums held in cities such as St. Petersburg, Vladivostok, and Sochi. This initiative aims to prevent significant price increases in the hotel industry during these events.
Maxim Shaskolsky, head of the FAS, announced the development on Tuesday, June 10, emphasizing the need to address the risk of inflated costs. The proposed mechanism is designed to be simple, painless, and limited in scope, focusing on specific high-demand periods.
The methodology would enable hotels to independently calculate the maximum permissible daily rate for guests. This approach seeks to provide a fair pricing structure while preventing excessive charges.
The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), scheduled from June 18 to 21 at the Expoforum Convention and Exhibition Center, is one of the events targeted by this initiative. There is consideration to broaden the application of this measure to include a wider range of events in the future.
