A father and son, Yuri Konstantinov, 53, and Artem Konstantinov, 30, were discovered deceased in a forest within the Dmitrovsky municipal district of the Moscow region. The men, residents of the village of Muravyovo, had been missing since June 12 and were the subjects of a search by police and volunteers.
The bodies were located on Sunday, June 15, and investigators believe the deaths occurred several days prior to the discovery.
Law enforcement sources indicate that the deaths do not appear to be the result of a crime.
According to a source, the father and son were reportedly struggling with drug addiction and had left a rehabilitation center. The source speculated that they may have been attempting to obtain drugs when they became lost in the forest and subsequently died after falling into a swamp.
Reports indicate that the men left their home on the morning of June 12 accompanied by a dog, using a scooter and a gyro scooter. The dog, a Labrador, returned home on June 15, appearing dirty and hungry, and having chewed through its leash.
A helicopter pilot involved in the LizaAlert search operation located the bodies from the air near graves in the neighboring village of Sysoevo. However, a law enforcement source has disputed claims that the bodies were found within the cemetery itself.
Acquaintances of the deceased have stated that Yuri had studied fish farming. Rumors of Yuri’s drug addiction circulated within the village. Local residents have suggested two possible explanations for the deaths: a drug overdose or a lightning strike.
One villager, who claimed to have close knowledge of Yuri’s addiction, stated that a drug overdose was the most likely cause of death for both men.
In an unrelated incident, the body of a 13-year-old boy was recently found in a river near Dmitrov after being fatally injured by a tractor cultivator.
