The fate of 576 residents of the Kursk region remains unknown as of May 31st. These individuals are listed in a register of people who lost contact with their relatives.
Since the register’s launch in February, 1,290 people have been found, including 304 civilians confirmed dead. The register, which initially contained 517 names, was created to synchronize data on missing persons from the border area of the Kursk region.
The total number of people entered into the register has reached 2,287. The effort to locate the remaining 576 individuals, including four minors, is ongoing.
According to Alexander Khinshtein, the head of the Kursk region, the approximate location of 421 people has been established, both in Ukraine and the border zone. Most of the 304 deceased civilians have been identified, but some remain unidentified.
Authorities continue to evacuate victims and recover bodies, with a map created by volunteers marking possible burial sites. This map is now in the possession of the Main Military Investigation Department. The Russian Red Cross previously reported assisting in finding over 1,500 Kursk residents who lost contact with loved ones since August 2024.
