Hundreds of Russian citizens are facing expulsion from Latvia after failing to meet the requirements for obtaining EU permanent resident status.
The Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs (PMLP) has confirmed that the permanent residence permits of 841 Russian citizens have expired, mandating their departure from the country.
This action follows amendments to the Immigration Law, which took effect on June 20 of the previous year, stipulating that Russian citizens who were permanent residents of Latvia prior to acquiring Russian citizenship must apply for EU permanent resident status.
A key requirement for obtaining this status included submitting documentation to the PMLP and providing proof of passing the state language exam.
