Work has commenced on the expansion of the northern semi-ring of the Yekaterinburg Ring Road (EKAD), starting with the section between the backup of the Siberian Highway and Vladimir Vysotsky Street. The project aims to improve traffic flow on this outdated segment of the ring road.
The initial phase of the reconstruction focuses on widening the roadbed between the 10th and 11th kilometers of the EKAD. Contractors will construct additional lanes to alleviate congestion on this narrow section. This first stage of the project is scheduled to be completed by June 2026.
Despite the construction, authorities assure minimal disruption to traffic. Significant restrictions are not expected on the existing roadway. However, drivers should anticipate a reduced speed limit of 50 km/h within the construction zone, along with a prohibition on overtaking.
Some areas will experience lane narrowing, and these restrictions have been coordinated with regional traffic police. Trest Uraltransspetsstroy has been contracted to carry out the work.
The broader project involves expanding the northern semi-ring from the 10th to the 24th kilometer, stretching from the backup of the Siberian Highway to the Rezhevsky Highway. This extensive reconstruction will be executed in four stages.
Recent years have seen considerable improvements to the EKAD. The ring road was fully completed in 2022, with expansions already implemented on its southern and eastern sections. In 2024, the section west of Yekaterinburg, from the Perm Highway to the access road to the village of Medny, was also widened.
