A St. Petersburg electronics store, PiterGSM, has been shut down following a raid by customs officials who discovered irregularities in its operations. The store, located on 2nd Sovetskaya Street, was found to be lacking essential documentation for its goods.
During the inspection on June 10th, authorities discovered the store did not have the necessary declarations, certificates of conformity, or proper documentation for the electronic devices it was selling. The prices of the equipment were also significantly lower than the average market value, raising further suspicion.
Approximately 6,000 units of electronics were seized from the store. The estimated value of the confiscated goods has already surpassed 100 million rubles, and authorities believe the final amount could be much higher.
The business is registered to an individual entrepreneur named Mikhail Malygaev. He reportedly began his business by reselling iPhones that were brought in from other countries. Malygaev’s current whereabouts are unknown, with reports suggesting that he may have already left Russia.
At present, the incident is being treated as a violation of customs legislation. However, the situation could escalate if authorities uncover evidence of smuggling.
The store is currently closed, which may impact the servicing of devices previously sold to customers.
